Some thoughts on Olicity, and Laurel.

Well, firstly, I would really like to see the producers/writers of Arrow explore the dynamic between Felicity and Oliver. It would be a shame to discard a romantic storyline between these two characters who don’t fail to light up the screen with this…

This. Someone pass this along to Berlanti and Guggenheim!!! Stat! The thoughts on the way Oliver “pretends” Laurel knows him better than anyone are spot on. USED to know him better than anyone. And ABSOLUTELY true that Laurel is at her best when being independent and not leaning on her dad, Oliver or Tommy. If it’s Laurel and Oliver for a while or supposed to be the “endgame”, start praying for some chemistry to show up!

Also a good point for why he’s with her. She’s not gotten involved in anything shady like his family and other friends around him. But some of that goes back to their “safety” they find in each other. For someone who has been gone for 5 years and is finding out about secret lives and jobs people on the list have on a regular basis - someone who is stable and finds out about the horrible things others are doing via the list and in his family/among his friends, that safety can be appealing. But to what end? Guarantee Laurel’s going to be heartbroken by Tommy being gone, she’ll end up in a terrible situation or Tommy will “miraculously” survive and she’ll question EVERYTHING again when S2 returns… And then…Oliver will get it. And then we slowly build up Olicity… :-)

You’re not the only one who found other things to do… It is rather ironic how he seems to tell Laurel one story and then he talks to everyone else and admits the island made him different. I’m not just talking about the team though - with them he’s obviously more REAL and knows he’s a different man. But even with his mom and sister - especially Thea - he knows and they know he’s come back a different guy. What he said to Laurel - about the island peeling back the layers to who he really is, sure - maybe it brought out some of his better characteristics but let’s not forget the whole vigilante side to you, Oliver. Plus ummm…how does torture and isolation not change a person???

The writers best have some good plans for how they work out this Laurel/Oliver thing (and start praying for chemistry to show on screen) or it is going to REALLY come across cheesy or fall flat on its face and will make some of this show a laugh. They’ve done a great job giving Oliver subtle realizations about himself and those around him so I’ve got hope. It’s probably just going to take him some time to move past their individual history and history as a couple BEFORE the island. The way he referred to it as her seeing who he WAS the whole time makes me think he’s still in that mindset - security is what he needs, their past is comfortable and it “works”. But…you ARE different and you HAVE changed Oliver. And clearly Laurel is still in a fragile position - that scene with Tommy coming in, she’s not over that either.

I’m going on other tangents now. Suffice to say… Writers, please have some brilliant plan that stops making Oliver sound so ridiculous when he comes up with fluffy, sunshiney lies he tells himself and Laurel when they’re together… Please? I do get that Oliver’s got to go through a bit of “growing up” though now that he’s back and the world with those around him have grown up already… It will all make for a great story of growth, integrity and strength for him. And…maybe Olicity???!!!!

This right here is seriously the worst betrayal Oliver could have committed. Even if Tommy hadn’t witnessed it, it was a complete betrayal of what little (if any) trust was left in that friendship, and the direct opposite of what Oliver promised him earlier in the episode; that he would never come between him and Laurel.

I don’t care if you don’t like Tommy. I don’t care if you ship Oliver and Laurel. This scene make Oliver look like the worst kind of jerk imaginable. Honestly, I think it was intended to.

but really tho.
I can’t care less about Tommy, not anymore. He’s annoying like shit. But what Oliver did was exactly what he would have done five years ago, before the island, before everything. Seeing him doing that nowadays? I couldn’t fuckin believe it.

I really hope that’s kind of the point. Leaving aside the fact I think they have absolutely no chemistry and their history is boring and fucked up in the first place, it’s a very nice and glaring contrast to who he is with Felicity (and to some extent with Diggle - I say Felicity because she’s the one that truly pushes Oliver to be good) and who he is with Laurel.

And frankly, I don’t like the person he is with Laurel.

YES! THIS! I do not like the person Oliver is with Laurel. And I know I am an Olicity shipper…but I used to ship Laurel and Oliver (in the first…two episodes or so) but this is what he does when he’s with Laurel? No…I don’t like that. He reverts back to playboy-billionaire. And that’s the point I think. When he’s with her, he can pretend those five years on the island didn’t exist, but they did, and they changed him for good or worse (I think for good). And this…this showed me that I really don’t like the person Oliver is when he’s with Laurel.

Once again, my personal opinion…

Totallyy agree with what has been written here by all of the above. Laurel and Oliver are trapped in the past looking for security blankets. He didn’t expect to return, she didn’t expect he’d be back. Threw them both for a loop so what is safe? Pretending to avoid each other and then giving it up in a weak moment. I DESPISE what Oliver did to Tommy. Don’t blame Tommy for hating him now. And if you go with Green Arrow storyline, Tommy is supposed to become the enemy. Granted, I LOVE who Tommy is with Laurel. Another reason I hate what Oliver did - so two faced. He truly is one track minded when it comes to Laurel - he went to her instead of Dig and now he’s told Tommy one thing and just when he twists his own truth (‘I only have to stop the Undertaking and I can stop’ - HA!) to make HIM happy. Pretty pissed at you right now, Oliver. Way to set yourself, Laurel and Tommy up for some unnecessary and awkward hate, heartache, lies, danger and stupidity. I call Laurel and Oliver LOLiver because it’s just too funny - it’s a laugh with the lack of chemistry, honesty and who they are with each other. They don’t bring out the best in one another.

But as it’s been said - that is all probably the point. We’ll go into the finale worried about Oliver, Felicity will likely be questioned by Lance, Laurel might get in some sort of dangerous situation, Tommy will stew on his hate, Moira may start losing it and then Oliver will realize when they return in fall - “Oh sh*t. What have I done?”
